For the children

July 7, 2010

From Liz Bird:

Kids try out the headphones during an interview

As our trip draws to a close, we are acutely aware that much of our time has been spent hearing harrowing and heart-breaking stories of things that happened long ago. Many people have told us that while they are no longer angry, they still feel the importance of acknowledging what happened, and understanding what terrible things can happen in war. We were struck by how many people told us that they see the creation of a memorial as a step toward peace, and not toward further conflict.

Curious children gathered wherever we went

Frequently,we were told that knowing the story is important for their children, grandchildren, and future generations. So here we offer some images of children who welcomed us — curious about what we were doing, and often fascinated by our technology, as they played around us.  We hope for a brighter future.
