Interviewing Sylvester Okocha

Elizabeth Bird interviews 96-year-old Sylvester Okocha in Asaba, December 2009

Welcome to our blog, in which we will share information about the Asaba Memorial Project. This is an interdisciplinary research project based at the University of South Florida, which seeks to document and memorialize the 1967 massacre of hundreds of civilans in Asaba, Nigeria, by federal troops during the Civil War.

We are visiting Nigeria again soon, and during our trip we will post observations and photos, not only about the research, but also about the sights, people, and culture we encounter on the way. Join us in our adventure!

Enjoyed reading about your work in Nigeria. It allows me to drift back to the mid90s when I was living in Maiduguri. It was a wonderful, enlightening, unforgettable experience. I am glad to see that USF is pursuing partnnerships with African colleges.

    Very best,
